Semantics mathematics or Psychology

Barbara Partee's classic paper, "Semantics: Mathematics or Psychology?" raised a question of central importance to the practice of semantics, but at a time when formal semantics was still in its infancy and when syntacticians in the Chomskyan tradition were not yet attempting to address foundational questions in semantics.

We're in a better position to address this question today. Formal semanticists and generative syntacticians have both made considerable progress over the past 30 years. This two-day conference will focus on revisiting the question "Semantics: Mathematics or Psychology?" in light of these advances.
